I found a whole bunch of pharmacology lectures from Ratfink.  Why not?  It sounded interesting.  This lecture is 63 minutes.  What this guy does is teach review classes for the dental board exams.

Pharmacology is all about physiology and biochemistry.

Branches: pharmacy, pharmokinetics, pharmacodynamics, toxicology, pharmacognoxy.

All drugs have 3 names:

Generic = non proprietary, offical

Trade = proprietary, brand, registered.  The manufacturer has exclusive right to produce the drug for 20 years.

Chemical = The IUPAC name.

Thalidomide was a teratogen in the 50s and 60s.  It was used for morning sickness and nausea but caused birth defects.  The FDA always points to this when asked about the effectiveness of what they do.
