Today’s lecture is 50 minutes long. Illustrations would help alot but I have not included them.

Binary phase diagrams are categorized by bonding and solubility.

Temperatures versus Composition. A on the left, B on the right.

Type 1 = complete solubility as solids and liquids, change of state. Need identical crystal structures. Similar atomic volumes. Isomorphous. Schotkky versus Frankel.

lens shape or len-ticular. l+s = slush. Liquidus is the lowest temperature where you can have all liquid stable. Below that makes solid.

Liquid metals have a high surface tension and “ball up.” FCC metals, the solid is denser than the liquid.

The Lever Rule: Percentage of liquid = (Cs-C)/(Cs-Cl)

Type 2= Partial or limited solubility of A and B. Single phase, always S or L. Synclinanl coexistence curve.

Ouzo and water. Absinthe. GABA regulates the speed the brain works at. Become a high functioning, very alert drunk. Add congnac to get rid of the murky phase. In some recipes, add alcohol then burn it.
