40% of solar radiation is in the vis range. IR does not excite electrons. UV disrupts organic molecules.

EM spectrum:cosmic, gamma, x rays, UV, vis, IR, microwave, UHF, VHG, FM, AM, AC.

Chlorophyll absorbes light and emits green. Has Mg in the center. Tetradentate molecule. Electrons in the Mg atom are excited. CLF absorbs mostly blue violet light and red. Grow lights are blue violet. If a molecule doesn’t absorb a color, it reflects it. Black absorbs all colors, white reflects all colors.

Prisms and raindrops break white light into it’s constituents. Carotene reflects orange red light.

Cones detect color and come in red, green and blue. The black spot is the pupil. The iris controls the opening. The cornea is the clear hard membrane. The retina has photoreceptors or sensory neurons that can recieve light. The optic nerve sends signals to the brain, cause APs to the brain.

Rods are for black and white.

Rhodopsin is retinol + opsin. Works like Chlorophyll. Vitamine A is retinol. Carotene forms two retinols. Lack of retinol causes “night blindness.”

Iodoxins are found in the cones. Color blindness is a sex based trait on the X chromosome. The color blind are allowed to drive because if a light is lit.

Infants are aware of smell and touch.
